G.O.O.D. (Getting Out Our Dreams) Music is an urban music record label that has been around for a number of years now, and has managed quite a number of commercially successful and critically acclaimed artists. At the very top of that list are founder Kanye West and extremely successful soul singer John Legend who were actually the label’s first two artists. The label has grown over the years taking on top notch musical talent, and as of late two more established names have been added to the line up; Tyga and the Migos.
News of the new signees surfaced this past Wednesday night. Kanye made the announcement of Tyga’s signing during an unexpected appearance at a G.O.O.D. Music event in New York. Migos and Tyga were present at the event which also featured performances by Pharrell Williams, Pusha T, Swizz Beatz, Desiigner and Teyana Taylor.
News of the Migos signing came later through an announcement made by G.O.O.D. Music’s president Pusha T. However, theirs is only a management deal. Other aspects of their business such as distribution are handled by other stakeholders.
Hopefully the two new signees will fit in well with the label. If history is anything to go by G.O.O.D. Music is probably one of the best places to be. Other acts which have achieved success under the label in one form or another include John Legend, Big Sean, Pusha T, Common, Kid Cudi, Travis Scott, Hit Boy and Symbolyc One.
Tyga is most well-known for his time at another highly successful label; Cash Money. He left the label a while back after his project, The Gold Album, was repeatedly denied release which eventually frustrated the rapper and resulted in a lot of negative remarks being made in the media both Tyga and label boss Birdman. Recently Tyga has been in the media more for his controversial relationship with Kylie Jenner, who is Kanye West’s sister in law. One tends to wonder if that had any bearing in the signing of the artist to the label. Migos is known best for their sing Versace which made a lot of noise when it blew up, so much so that a remix with Drake was recorded and released.
It will be interesting to see how the new deals will affect the direction of the respective careers of the two new signees, especially for Tyga. Having access to G.O.O.D. Music’s in-house producers such as S1, Travis Scott, Q-Tip, Mike Dean and my personal favorite No I.D. is a dream in itself. I for one am waiting patiently.
